Frequently Asked Questions: WHAT IS JUNIOR AUDUBON? It is a nature club.
It was started over 40 years ago by Mr. & Mrs. William Amundson and is
today the longest running and we think, the only Junior Audubon program in
the nation. WHAT IS ITS PURPOSE? The purpose of Junior
Audubon is to give members an enjoyable and educational experience while
learning about their environment. WHO CAN JOIN JUNIOR AUDUBON? Junior Audubon is
open to children 7 years old and up. Junior high school students are
welcome and can be junior leaders if they wish. WHEN DO YOU MEET? Meetings are held one
Saturday a month during the school year, September through May (excluding
December). You will be sent a newsletter each month notifying you of the
program, time and place of the meeting. An annual program calendar is
published in the first newsletter of each year. WHAT KIND OF PROGRAMS DO YOU HAVE? We have done
woodcarving, Indian lore, programs on bats, bees, birds, butterflies,
flowers, photography, snakes (live ones). We make bird feeders,
birdhouses, crafts, and more. Field trips to the gypsum mines,
snowshoeing, archaeology, geology, pond study, nature walks, gravel pits,
tree study and much, much more. IS THERE A CHARGE TO JOIN? Membership dues are presently $10.00 for the first child and $5.00 for each additional child per family per year. This covers the cost of printing and mailing the newsletter and part of the program costs. Other expenses of the club are paid for by the Grand Rapids Audubon Club which sponsors Junior Audubon.
